Strange Place, Poetic Experience

Loop Art Critique: Institutional Critique

Through my work, I delve into the concept of an alternate universe nestled on the fringes of our reality – a realm where the wisdom and vibrance of elder women flourish, untamed and unbound by the constraints of society. “Strange Place” is not just an artistic exploration but a bold critique of our societal norms surrounding aging and the visibility of elder women. In our world, these matriarchs are often relegated to the shadows, their vitality overlooked and their presence marginalized.

This piece invites audiences into a speculative vision where aging is reimagined as a vibrant, magical transition, challenging the prevalent narratives of decline and invisibility. It confronts the painful solitude enforced upon our elders by societal norms and the physical limitations imposed upon them, from the tyranny of gravity to the betrayals of the mind.

By situating this narrative in a speculative, science fiction landscape, “Strange Place” serves as a poetic, trippy odyssey that questions and subverts our perceptions. Strange Place is an invitation to imagine a society where elder women are celebrated for their energetic essence and transformative wisdom, embodying a radical critique of how our society undervalues and isolates its most wise, vibrant, integral members of society.

Loop Art Critique Experience

Strange Place loop art critique metaverseReflecting on my six-week journey with the Loop Art Critique program, I’m awash with a sense of profound enlightenment and personal growth. Venturing into this experience, I embarked on a deep dive into both my soul and my art, grappling with the nuances of institutional critique in a way that was both enlightening and transformative.

From the onset, the meritocratic ethos of the program resonated with me deeply. My acceptance was not tethered to my name or any external descriptors but was purely a recognition of my art’s intrinsic value. This pure, unadulterated appraisal of creativity underscored a significant lesson in the power of art to stand alone, unanchored by the identity of its creator.

The journey introduced me to the XR Creator tools, a technological marvel that initially seemed daunting. My initial apprehension, rooted in the complexity of navigating the three-dimensional coordinates of x, y, and z, gradually gave way to a robust understanding and appreciation of spatial perspective. This newfound mastery opened my eyes to the boundless possibilities of where I could take my art next. The “Strange Place” project emerged as a testament to this growth—a mesmerizing, groundless universe that invites visitors not just to observe but to float and immerse themselves in its trippy beauty.

This experience has been an odyssey of self-discovery and artistic evolution. I’ve not only learned about the vast capabilities of digital tools and the importance of critical engagement with art’s societal role but also about my resilience and capability to evolve my craft in unprecedented ways.

About Ecopoiesis Group Show

I’m thrilled to be in the Ecopoiesis group show from the Loop Art Critique.

My statement about Ecopiesis:

Ecopoiesis stretches the canvas of our planetary responsibilities, painting us not just as caretakers, but as creators of new environmental masterpieces. In this audacious act of crafting ecosystems within planets or controlled habitats, we channel our innate creativity to design sustainable sanctuaries, intertwining art with science. This process transcends conventional ecological management; it’s a profound expression of cultural artistry where each endeavor in ecopoiesis becomes a deliberate, thoughtful act of environmental storytelling. By sculpting these vibrant ecological universes, we weave a narrative of rejuvenation and sustainability, envisioning a future where human ingenuity and nature’s resilience collaborate in a perpetual dance of creative and regenerative possibility.
