Spices and Herbs
Fall and Winter are that time of the year. My home is filled with scents of wonderful warm spices. Throughout November, hints of Cinnamon, All Spice, Ginger, Cloves, Nutmeg, Rosemary, Sage, Bay Leaves, Thyme, Turmeric, and Cardamom infuse the air. Every Thanksgiving, the aromas from these spices and herbs warm the scenes and delight tastebuds.
I grew up in New England, in the small town of Wolcott, Connecticut. I remember the frigid cold weather of November through March. When waiting for the school bus to pick me up for school, the only thing I could think of was a hot beverage.
A tradition for my family is to serve a warm beverage after the holiday meal. I have two recipes to celebrate the holidays. Both are hot, non-alcohol beverages and created by Martha Stewart.
Martha Stewart Mulled Cider
Martha Stewart’s Mulled Cider is easy to make. It only takes five minutes and serves eight. But, first, you will need two quarts of apple cider, four strips of lemon zest, two cinnamon sticks, one teaspoon of whole allspice berries, and a teaspoon of cloves.
Put all of the ingredients into a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and steep for twenty minutes and up to four hours. Take in the aroma! Yummy! You will have an excellent hot beverage to serve your guest.
Martha Stewart Apple Cider Recipe
Martha Stewart Apple Cider Recipe is a variation to the Martha Stewart Mulled Cider recipe. In this case, you will need One and one-quarter quarts of apple cider, three tablespoons of firmly packed light-brown sugar, seven whole cinnamon sticks, and six cinnamon sticks for garnish, one teaspoon of allspice, half of teaspoon of ground ginger, ground cloves, freshly grated nutmeg, and salt.
Add all the ingredients to a medium-size saucepan, whisk and simmer. You may strain into a pitcher and toss the solids. Serve in mugs. Don’t forget to top with the cinnamon sticks!
Martha Stewart’s lovely hot beverage will dazzle the senses and warm the chilled November air. And your home will smell delightful and welcoming.
I hope you will serve the mulled cider in one of Tery Designs’ lovely Fall & Winter mugs. There’s something so delightful about curling up with a cup of mulled cider and a great book. Tery Design Inspiration for the Fall and Winter
What’s my inspiration? The Fall and Winter of 2021 and 2022 is a juxtaposition of soft tones that are opposite. Sandstone, rust, and cobalt with highlights of green, lemon, pearl, and copper make my patterns pop with delight. I’m putting my creativity to work!
